Athletes I look up to

To be completely honest I do not know many triathletes, but I am still deeply inspired by professionals who showcase their training and the principles they follow to do said training. YouTube is a great source for inspiration and information, generally I like to watch athletes that take a holistic approach to their training and lifestyle, and who present their ideas in a way that does not feel prescriptive. It’s difficult to feel a sense of ‘you should do this’ from an expert if the thing to do is out of reach. The YouTubers I watch tend to have a more kind approach and relay their message with a ‘this is what works for me, and I recommend it’ approach.

Fergus Crawley

Fergus is an incredible athlete that has done some of the hardest races I have ever heard of, like a double Ironman. He presents his training alongside tips, how-to videos, resources, and a connection to mental health.

Natacha Oceane

Natacha has an inspirational and positive message in all of her videos. She combines lifestyle, nutrition, and training in her how-to videos and blogs. Something I really appreciate about her YouTube channel is that she uses an evidence based approach to training and nutrition, often referencing research directly on her videos. This really builds trust in the viewer as what she goes off in her advice is supported by sport scientists.

Keltie O’Connor

Keltie’s channel feels a little bit more relatable as she uses humour to represent her ideas and often tries new training trends. More often than not I find her videos entertaining and somewhat informative.

Overall, there is a lot of information online that can be incredibly useful, having experts’ voices inform my training is really nice as I get guidance from incredible athletes. I will continue to watch their channels to be inspired.
